On language and sexual politics

"In this book, Deborah Cameron, a leading feminist linguist, examines the sexual politics of language - the way we use it, the things we believe about it, and the picture of the world we construct with it."

"Bringing together classic journal articles and book chapters and introducing several previously unpublished pieces, On Language and Sexual Politics covers Cameron's contributions to the main developments in Anglo-American feminist linguistics spanning the last twenty years. The subjects range from college students' penis vocabulary to the language attitudes of the Advertising Standards Authority, and from young men's gossip to the language used in call centres. On Language and Sexual Politics shows that while approaches have changed over time, language is still very much a feminist issue."--Jacket.
