The Glory and the Dream

A narrative history of the United States by William Manchester. From the election of Franklin Roosevelt in 1932 to the Watergate Scandal in 1972, Manchester's easy to read narrative style keeps the reader interested. Besides just covering the bare historical facts, Manchester also provides insight into what life was like for the common man. All in all a very engaging, easy to ready history covering the Great Depression, the lead up to World War II, the war itself, postwar America, The Korean War, The Cold War, The Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon presidencies.
