Old Man River & me

Join Mark Knudsen on his journey of a lifetime. He constructed an 18-foot flat-bottomed johnboat and motored down the Mississippi River from Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico, encountering all manner of people on the way. His lively account is as much about the effect of the people on the great river as about the waters he navigated. "The pessimist in me thinks that technology and rules will ultimately change this previous waterway for the worst", he says, "But the optimist in me hopes that the people along the river will win out protecting the Mississippi".
