Islands

"Islands - real, artificial, and metaphoric - have always had a fascination of their own. Highlighted by the isolation they find themselves in, contemporary buildings near, or even in, water transcend boundaries to create impressive, and at times daring, insular architecture. In nearly 50 projects, Islands showcases masterful examples of this interplay of elements. These extraordinary creations by renowned architects such as Jean Nouvel, Frank O. Gehry, Renzo Piano, and Foster + Partners offer a fascinating journey through the architectural islands of today, tomorrow, and the distant future."--Publisher's description.
