Jim Dine prints, 1985-2000

"Jim Dine ranks among the greatest artists of the twentieth century and the present day. He entered the New York art world to great acclaim with his Happenings and mixed media assemblages in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Although commonly associated with the Pop art movement of the 1960s, Dine's work pertains more to his lifelong search for the self and for insights into what it means to be human.

He has continued to work unceasingly for over four centuries, producing paintings, sculpture, prints, and photographs.".

"This illustrated catalogue raisonne provides detailed information on 198 prints, 10 livres d'artiste, and 4 portfolios. Essays by Elizabeth Carpenter and Joseph Ruzicka give context to Dine's graphic work since 1985 and offer new insights based on conversations with the artist and his printers and collaborators. Joseph Ruzicka presents a historical and critical overview of Dine's print work and examines the genesis and evolution of Dine's familiar motifs through detailed analysis of individual images.

Elizabeth Carpenter demonstrates how Dine's livres d'artiste integrate his performances, visual art, and poetry with his love of literature. The catalogue also includes a selected exhibition history, a glossary of printmaking terms germane to Dine's practice, and a selected print bibliography, all reflecting the most current research on this major figure in American printmaking."--BOOK JACKET.
