John Randolph

A new edition of Adams' 1882 biography of John Randolph of Roanoke (1773-1833), a particularly acerbic critic of the politics of his time, who turned against every US president from John Adams to Andre Jackson, coined the term Hawks for proponents of war, and for his vicious verbal attacks was challenged to a duel by the easygoing Henry Clay.
