Staffordshire airfields in the Second World War

"The contribution made by Staffordshire's airfields during the Second World War was enormous and, between 1939 and 1945, they were kept continually active. New airfields were brought into service at Abbots Bromley, Battlestead Hill, Halfpenny Green, Hixon, Hoar Cross, Lichfield, Penkridge, Perton, Tatenhill, Teddesley Park and Wheaton Aston. They were used for vital tasks such as flying training, maintenance and arrangement, night flying, navigation, and instrument handling techniques. Seighford became a satellite landing ground for 30 Operational Training Unit (OTU) and the Heavy Glider Conversion Unit (HGCU)."

"Martyn Chorlton's book describes the history of each airfield, highlights some of the operations carried out from them, and puts them into the overall context of a country and nation at war. It will appeal equally to aviation enthusiasts and to readers who recall the era when the country's skies never ceased to throb with the drone of departing and returning aircraft."--Jacket.
